SUN PEAKS FAMILY CUP All-Nations Celebrations -January 4-11, 2015

Come share the magic of Sun Peak’s charming, family friendly ski in/ski out village and three mountain peaks, January 4 to 11, 2015 at the 9th Annual Sun Peaks Family Cup – All Nations Celebration. With over 500 acres of NEW terrain slated for the 2014/15 season making Sun Peaks second largest resort in Canada with 4200 acres of skiable terrain it’s a great time to visit.

Gates Training

Get in some free daily training on January 7 and 8 between 11:00am and 2:00pm on the Suncatcher practice race course. Suitable for all ages and standards of skier or snowboarder, from those seeking a little fun, to experienced downhillers who enjoy the thrill of racing.

 

Sunday, January 4

Sunday Welcome Reception with Nancy Greene

Join former Olympian and Canadian Senator Nancy Greene at a special welcome reception. Adventure Centre staff will be on hand to go over all the exciting activities coming up for the Family Cup events including onsite registration.

Monday, January 5

NEW! Family Fun Dual Race

A fun Family Dual Race on Sunbeam from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. It's a great way to enjoy the excitement of racing against family and friends in a fun and safe environment. The course is designed for all ages and abilities, ages 5 years and up. Free, but registration is required.

Tuesday, January 6

Family Fun Night at the Skating Rink

Join mascot Harry Bear and Barney the Kangaroo at the Family Cup Skating Party & Family Fun Night. Nothing is more Canadian than skating under the stars and warming up around a roaring
campfire with fresh hot chocolate. Free skating for kids 12 and under. Skate rentals apply. Ages 13+ charges apply.

Wednesday, January 7

NEW! Kids Craft Night at Sundance Kids Centre

Join us at Sundance Kids Centre every Wednesday for a fun evening of arts and crafts. Our awesome Kids Centre Staff help kids build masterpieces that they can take home! Ages 5 and up.

Thursday, January 8

FREE! Children's Obstacle Course

Bring the children out to compete in a fun obstacle course and a chance to win medals. Categories include both male and female, open, youth (9–14), and children (8 & under). Keep your eyes peeled for Barney the Kangaroo and Harry Bear! Prizes and medals will be awarded directly after the event.

Friday, January 9

High Roller Mountain Marathon

This family fun event allows participants to cover all three mountains that Sun Peaks has to off er. Each participant will be required to visit a number of checkpoints in sequence where they will roll the dice; results will be recorded at each checkpoint. The awards ceremony will be held at the Family Cup Welcome Reception.

Friday Race Series

Tune up for Saturday's Family Cup Race with the Friday Race Series! This is a recreational racing
event for all level of skiers and snowboarders, with participants split into various age categories.

Family Cup Welcome Reception

The welcome reception party is hosted by Tourism Sun Peaks in the M–Room at 5:00pm for participants in the Sun Peaks Family Cup events. The reception party is open to everyone and
includes complimentary finger food.

Saturday, January 10

9th Annual Family Cup Race and Awards

The race is a held on a modified dual slalom course for children and adults of all ages and all abilities. Course inspection is at 9:45am and the race at 10:30am. Family and/or group members can choose to race against each other. Medals are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each age division (male and female), in both skiing and snowboarding, as well as the smallest time difference between two runs on a course by the same participant. There are also perpetual trophies awarded for the fastest family (minimum of 3 required), fastest group (minimum of 6 required), and overall nations award. The awards ceremony will be held at Bento's Day Lodge at
5:00pm, with Nancy Greene in attendance.

Sunday, January 11

The 6th Annual 'Kookaburra Loppet' Cross Country Ski Competition

This family fun event is open for all levels of XC Skiers starting at 10:30am. There are 2km, 5km, 15km, and 30km courses starting and fi nishing near the Nordic Centre. Awards will be presented at 3:00pm at the M–Room. Medals are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each of the races, both male and female, with age divisions included if the number of participants warrants it.
