SUN PEAKS FAMILY CUP All-Nations Celebrations -January 2nd to 16th 2013
Join us at the Sun Peaks Resort in British Columbia, the 3rd largest ski area in Canada, throughout the month of January to experience a family winter wonderland. With 122 runs covering 3,678 acres of downhill excitement, along with 31 kilometres of groomed and track-set Nordic Cross-Country trails, the Sun Peaks Resort comes alive in January welcoming people from around the world to a destination that is more than just skiing.
Enjoy the fun and participation of daily activities during the 7th Annual Sun Peaks Family Cup events, and continue on into the 15th Annual Winter Festival of Wine, to be held from Saturday 12th to Sunday 20th January.

Wednesday 2nd January
FAMILY FUN NIGHT - Time: 6:00pm – 8:00pm Location: Meet at the Skating Rink Cost: Free-Of-Charge.
Bring the children out and join us for a range of activities at the Family Fun Night at the Skating Rink, which is all about the kids!! No reservation required. Meet the Sun Peaks Family Cup Team at this Family Fun Night and register your interest for the range of upcoming events. Keep your eyes peeled for the first appearance of ‘Barney the Kangaroo’ and ‘Harry the Bear’!
Thursday 3rd January
GATES TRAINING - Time: 11.00am – 2.00pm Location: The Sun Catcher ski run Cost: Free-Of-Charge.
Get in some daily training for the upcoming 7th Annual Sun Peaks Family Cup to be held on Saturday 12th January. Suitable for all ages, and all standards of skier and boarder, from those seeking a little fun, to those experienced downhillers who enjoy the thril of racing.
FONDUE DINNER & EVENING DESCENT - Time: 5:00pm – 7.00pm
Location: Meet at the Sunburst Chairlift Cost: $65 CDN per person.
Bookings for this event are to be made at the Adventure Centre. All guests must be able to ski or snowboard down the 5 Mile ski run with confidence. Minimum age to participate is 14 years. The evening begins with a twilight ride up the Sunburst Express Chairlift to the mid-mountain restaurant. Upon arrival, guests will be treated to a delightful fondue accompanied by live music. After the meal, cruise down the lantern lit slopes of the 5 Mile ski run with your guide. A headlamp will be provided to all guests for the descent. Participants must be over 14 years of age.
Friday January 4
FRIDAY RACE SERIES - Time: 12 Noon – 1.30pm Location: The Sundance ski run Cost: $10 CDN per person.
This exciting event includes 2 timed runs down the race course located at the Sundance ski run, and a beer or a soda afterwards at Masa’s Bar + Grill during the race wind up. Prizes are all based on participation – not on times, so take your time and have fun and race safe. This weekly Sun Peaks event is great training for those intending to enter the upcoming 7th Annual Sun Peaks Family Cup to be held on Saturday 12th January.
MOONLIGHT SNOWSHOE AND S’MORES - Time: 6:00pm – 8.00pm
Beginning with an easy 1km snowshoe tour and guided trek through beautiful forest trails, guests will then enjoy a roaring fire, hot chocolate and special S’mores at our cozy winter camp. Bookings for this event are to be made at the Adventure Centre. Cost: Adult $39 CDN / Youth (13-18) & Senior (65+) $34 CDN / Child (8-12) $18 CDN

SNOWSHOE CAMPFIRE COOKOUT - Time: 6:00pm – 8.00pm
Come join us for an exciting evening event which starts off on an easy 1 km snowshoe tour. You will be guided through the forest on beautiful snow covered trails out to our cozy winter camp, to enjoy a cookout around a roaring campfire.
Our return journey offers amazing views overlooking the village and allows participants to make fresh tracks of their own. This is an experience that everyone can enjoy. Families with children 8 years and older and adults young at heart will enjoy this evening out under the stars.Bookings for this event are to be made at the Adventure Centre. Sunday 6th January
The 4th Annual ‘KOOKABURRA CUP’ Cross-Country Skiing Competition -
Race Briefing: 10:45am Start Time: 11:00am
Location: Start/Finish area is located on the “Village Loop” trail, between the Morrisey Bridge and the Skating Rink Barn Cost: $15 CDN per person. Registration for this event on the 6th January also includes entry for the following Sunday’s (13th January) Tubing Party from 4:00 to 6:00pm. Bib collection is in Village Day Lodge Breezeway from 9:00am - 10:15am, and participants get to keep their race bibs as a memento of their involvement.
The Kookaburra Cup XC Skiing competition is in its 4th year of operation on the Sun Peaks XC trails. This family fun event is open for all levels of XC Skiers. The race is a free-ski style race, though we may look to introduce a classic class if there is sufficient interest in 2013. There is a short course (1.8km) for beginners and novice skiers, a 4.0km course for those intermediate skiers looking for a bit more of a challenge, whilst the 10.0km is for the advanced XC competitors.
Awards will be presented at approximately 12 Noon at the finish area, following the completion of the Event. Medals are awarded for 1st/2nd /3rd in each of the Novice (2.0km) / Intermediate (4.0km) / Advanced (10.0km) races, both male & female, with age divisions (17 and under / 18 and over) included, if the number of participants warrants it.
VALLEY OF THE LYNX SNOWSHOE TOUR - Time: 1:30pm – 3.30pm
Explore the natural winter environment of the elusive Canadian Lynx that inhabit the Sun Peaks Mountains. Join one of our experienced local interpretive guides and learn about the Lynx. Included is a stop at our winter camp to enjoy hot apple cider and treats.Bookings for this event are to be made at the Adventure Centre. Cost: Adult $39 CDN / Youth (13-18) & Senior (65+) $34 CDN / Child (8-12) $18 CDN

TUBE PARK FUN - Start Time: 12:00 noon to 7.00pm Location: Sun Peaks tube park
With its unique curving Lanes, the Tube Time Park is a ride unlike any other tube park. Come experience the lift accessed tubing hill, located beside the Village Platter lift. Bookings for this event are to be made at the Adventure Centre. Cost: For 2 hours - $15 CDN per adult (13+) / $12 CDN per child / Under 5 years are FREE.
Tuesday 8th January
‘FIRST TRACKS’ Breakfast - Time: 8:00am to 10.00am Location: Meet at the Sunburst Express Chairlift
The ‘First Tracks’ Breakfast gets snow-seekers up the chairlift before anyone else. Get exclusive run on all trails leading to the Elevation Quad for the first hour of the day. No lift lines, no crowds, no tracks marking the terrain. After making your mark, head to the mid-mountain Sunburst Lodge from 9am to 10.00am to fuel up on a hearty breakfast, which is included in the cost. Tickets must be purchased on the previous day by 3.00pm at the Adventure Centre. Cost: $22 CDN Adult & Youth (13+) / $17 CDN Child

Children’s OBSTACLE COURSE - Time: 2:00pm – 3.30pm Location: Meet next to Platter T-bar Cost: $10 CDN per person.
Bring the children out to compete in a fun obstacle course and a chance to win medals. Categories will include both Male and Female Categories of Open, Youth (9-14yrs), and Children (8 & under). Keep your eyes peeled for ‘Barney the Kangaroo’ and ‘Harry the Bear’! Prizes/medals will be awarded directly after the event.

SKATING PARTY - Time: 3:00pm - 5:00pm Location: Meet at Skating Rink Cost: $10 CDN per person.
The annual Sun Peaks Skating Party is on once again with hot chocolate and Canadian traditional hot dog & marshmallow roasting on the open fire. Watch out for ‘Barney the Kangaroo’ and ‘ Harry the Bear’ who will be out skating during this family fun event, along with the ‘town clown’.

HIGH ROLLER MOUNTAIN MARATHON - Time: 10:30am – 2:00pm Location: Meet in Village Day Lodge Breezeway, Cost: $Nil to participants in either the Obstacle Course / Family Cup / Kookaburra Cup, or $10 CDN per person otherwise. This event is not a race, but rather a family fun event that allows participants to cover all three mountains that the Sun Peaks resort has to offer (Sundance, Todd and Morrisey). Each participant will be required to visit a number of checkpoints in sequence, where they will roll the dice. The result will be recorded at each checkpoint. Watch out for ‘Barney the Kangaroo’ and ‘ Harry the Bear’ who will be out on-mountain during this family fun marathon event. The Awards Ceremony will be held at the Welcome Reception Party at the Delta Sun Peaks at 5.30pm later this evening !

WELCOME RECEPTION PARTY - Time: 5:30 – 7:30pm Location: Delta Sun Peaks Cost: Free -of-Charge.
This welcome reception party is hosted by Delta Sun Peaks in the Salon rooms on the Lobby level of the Delta Sun Peaks. The Reception Party is open to everyone and includes complimentary finger food. An adjoining children’s room with games activities for the children is provided. Experience the indoor bouncing castle, plus a host of other indoor games! A cash bar will be available for adults (only) within the reception room.

The 7th Annual SUN PEAKS FAMILY CUP for skiers and boarders - Course Inspection: 9:45am Start Time: 10:30am
Location: Sun Catcher ski run. Cost: $15 CDN per person. Registration for this event also includes the Sunday Tubing Party from 4:00 to 6:00pm. Bib collection is held in the Village Day Lodge Breezeway from 8:00am – 9:30am, and participants get to keep their race bibs as a memento of their involvement. Keep your eyes peeled for ‘Barney the Kangaroo’ and ‘Harry the Bear’! The Presentation Ceremony will be held at Bentos Day Lodge at 5:30pm, with Nancy Greene in attendance. The Event is a held on a modified dual slalom course for children & adults of all ages and all abilities. Our youngest participant has been 2 years old, whilst the oldest has been in their 80’s. Family and/or group members can choose to race against each other. Medals are awarded for 1st/2nd/3rd in each age division (male & female), both in skiing and snowboarding, as well as the smallest time difference between two runs on a course by the same participant. There are also perpetual trophies awarded for: the fastest family (minimum of 3 required) / fastest group (minimum of 6 required) / overall Nations Award, which currently sits with Australia.
The 5th Annual MacDaddies Nightclub Dance Party - Time: 9:30pm till late
Location: MacDaddies Nightclub located under the Delta Sun Peaks Resort – usual entry is opposite the supermarket, but join us at the Mantles Bar and Lounge area located at the lower lobby area of the Delta Sun Peaks Resort from 9.00pm, with entry to our Dance Party at 10.00pm. Cost: $10 CDN per person which includes your first beverage of the night. Dance the night away and celebrate a great week of events with the Sun Peaks Family Cup Week committee team !!!
The 15th Annual Winter Okanagan Wine Festival commences !! - January 12 to 20
Daily Jan 12-20 - Sun Peaks Wine & Dine - Various Times and Locations
Select restaurants at Sun Peaks offer enticing cuisine specially paired with affordable Okanagan wines. Choose from a price fixed menu and take part in enjoying the fusion of select wines from the Okangan. The Wine & Dine event is held nightly during the festival and advance tickets are not required – simply visit a participating restaurant in the Sun Peaks Village. Reservations are recommended. Please check the Sun Peaks Resort website for a list of participating wineries.

TUBING PARTY - Time: 4:00pm-6:00pm Location: Sun Peaks tube park
The tubing party event is free-of-charge for all Family Cup and Kookaburra Cup competitors. You pick up your tube pass on Sunday at 4.00pm from the Tubing Park entrance. Please bring your race bib along as proof of involvement. A fee of $10 CDN per person will be charged to all non-competitors.

Back by popular demand! Join us for an evening of port style wines from the Okanaga paired with fine Canadian cheeses made from 100% Canadian milk presented by the Dairy Farmers of Canada. Experience the delicious combination of these special fortified wines with a tangy, buttery, aged cheddar, zesty blue cheese. The mystery location of this event is not revealed until you board the bus to take you to a private home at Sun Peaks Resort. Space is limited to only 30 people to ensure an intimate fun evening.

A unique event that has attracted critical acclaim and permits you to taste rare wines and amazing small plates paired with each rare wine. Join Executive Chef Steve Buzak, and leading Okangan wine experts, as award winning wines from the prestigious 2011 British Columbia Wine Awards are paired with seasonally inspired culinary treats with a liberal dash of education.
THE SUN PEAKS PROGRESSIVE TASTING Location: Sun Peaks Village
The flagship event of the Okanagan Wine Festival, this tasting combines cool wines, crisp mountain air and good company to create warm and wonderful memories of a Canadian winter. Wander aorund the charming alpine village, tasting amazing wines from over 20 wineries, listening to an array of live music and enjoying a romantic winter evening. Please note that this event does not include a meal. It is recommended that you eat before you arrive.
